Return from Seattle

We have a lot of details from our recent trip to Seattle to post, but this part of the trip deserves its own entry.

We were nearing the end of the day's travel as we pulled into Nampa to stay for the evening; we would finish the trip back the next day (Monday).

Mother's Day Success

Well, I had a great Mother's Day. Ruth and Amelia spent all week offering to help with meals and cleaning up (special thanks go to primary and preschool teachers for emphasizing this) and I received numerous handmade items. Then Martin and Ruth bought me flowers on Saturday--notice this all happened before Mother's Day officially started. Sunday morning Martin took Susanna downstairs early so I could sleep in and right when I felt ready to come down, Martin and the girls all came in with blueberry pancakes (made from scratch!) for me to eat in bed. As they left me in the room to eat, Amelia said, "I hope your tummy gets big and fat!" Isn't that great? No unrealistic expectations of fitness in this family! Ruth then took her hand and as they walked down the hall she said, "Amelia, that only happens when you eat a whole turkey." We realized later that these comments were made in reference to the classic Tom and Jerry episode where an orphan mouse shows up on their doorstep and devours the Thanksgiving feast.

Easter

We haven't written anything for a few months, but here's an update. (Facebook seems to be all the rage these days, and is a little easier to write one or two sentences than a whole page. Not that I have an account...)

Ruth and Amelia were very excited to hear that Easter was this week. They both understand the religious aspect of this time and most certainly enjoy the goodies!

After they came back from Church, Amelia spotted some easter eggs as we drove in. They were very excited to get their baskets and start collecting. However, we made them pose for some family photos first.

On a side note, our townhome is currently under contract and should close by the end of the month. We've started our preliminary house-hunting, mostly looking at the WFR-MLS ourselves. Short sales are quite common among discounted homes, so we may end up trying that ...

Primary Program Shenanigans

Ruth's first primary program turned out to be very interesting. She learned her line ("I know that Heavenly Father loves me") about a month ago and has never had a problem remembering it. While we were getting ready for church today, I asked Ruth, "So when it is your turn to go up to the microphone, you will say...?" Ruth answered with a smile, "Sorry guys, maybe next time." I imagined the surprise and amusement of the congregation if she actually said that and pranced off to her seat with a smile. After working a little more to impress on her that she should say her correct line, we left for church, not knowing what she would do...
Amelia "Handle with Care" Glass

Amelia went to the 3rd birthday party of another girl (Caroline) in her nursery on Saturday. She had a fun time (as far as we know), and really likes her nursery leaders (Caroline's parents).
Later that afternoon we went to the company's annual Summer party. The weather was very nice and the food was excellent (as usual). Due to the Olympics, it was a Chinese theme -- Chinese food (plus steaks), crafts and performances (acrobats).

Crazy Kiddies

Ruth has been pushing the limits of her bedtime routine over the last couple of months. At first we would find her outside of her room in the hallway well past her bedtime, flipping through encyclopedias(1983 World Book vintage). We told her we would much prefer her to do that while waiting for us to wake up in the morning, instead of coming into our room right away. Of course that wasn't nearly as appealing to her as the thrill she was getting every night evading detection. Since it started, we have found her asleep in the blue recliner in our bedroom and on the floor in the hallway (complete with pillow and blanket). To top it off, one evening we heard her making noise and came up the stairs to find that she had spread out all the encyclopedias like tiles to make herself a 4'x 4' pallet in the middle of the hallway, where she was lying with her pillow and blanket. Exciting as it may have seemed at the time, she must have realized that it was a far cry from the comfort of Grandma's plush carpet, let alone her own bed.

Vacation Time!

This last week has been a great get-together for Stacie's family. Brady's family visited from Texas (on 3rd), and Natalie came down from Idaho (the following Tuesday).
Susanna - Blessing

We blessed little baby Susanna last Sunday, the 6th July 2008. Brady and his family arrived on the 3rd July, and we were pleased to have him and Clint assist.
She wore the same outfit as her sisters and was very agreeable during the ordinance.

Susanna - Check-up

Susanna had her two-week check-up on 11th June. She weighed 10 lbs. 14 oz, and measured 23 in (but the paper they measured was wrinkled underneath her, so we figure she is just 22 inches long). Head circumference was 14.5 in.
She is doing very well despite her (non-)sleep habits. She likes to nap just a little while before waking up...

Announcement -- Susanna Glass

Our new arrival is now named: Susanna Vera Glass. Martin and Stacie's size predictions for the little cherub (8 lb. 14 oz. and 9 lb. 4 oz., respectively) were crushed--she weighed 9 lb. 11.5 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long. She has a very mild temperament but has yet to save her longer sleep stretches for the nighttime, much to her parents' (*cough* mother's) dismay. We are still taking her in for bilirubin blood tests for her jaundice, but we hope today will be the last round. Ruth and Amelia are very excited to have Susanna home and everything is going well.
